Deadly Poison - Sugarcane Juice

A friend whose father works for the government health inspection passed on his info. Their job is to inspect all hawkers, their cooked food, their store hygiene, etc. They found sugar cane juice has the highest content of bacteria among all food. In fact, it has exceeded the set limit.

Hence, these guys had to find out why.. They went round all sugar cane stores and watched the way the hawkers handled their sugar cane, wash their glasses, their entire procedure.

But they couldn't find the problem.

One day, they stayed till closing time and discovered some shocking facts! Whenever, the hawkers closed their stores, they would wash the floor with detergent.

As we know, the remaining sugar canes will be placed at the back of the store, vertically standing and as sugar canes are very porous, they tend to absorb whatever liquid around them.

Besides the soapy water, the dirt on hawkers' boots, cats' urine, etc, will all be absorbed??

Now, whenever I eat at a hawker centre, I would warn all my friends about this and of course, I stopped drinking my favourite sugar cane juice.

A friend, who loved sugar cane juice, was pregnant. She was always drinking sugar cane juice. Anyway, one day she miscarried and the fetus was already like 6 or 7 months old, I think. When the doctors did an autopsy to find out why all of a sudden the fetus had died inside her, they found traces of some chemical substance, which was found in cat urine... Large traces of it.

While it would not be able to harm adults, it was extremely toxic to babies, what more a fetus? So they tried to determine how this cat urine thing could have ended up in the fetus.

This meant that it had to be digested by the mother, right? And the only logical conclusion they could come up with was that since these sugar cane juice stall holders just leave the canes lying around on the wet and dirty floor, it would not be impossible to think that stray cats could have peed on those sugar canes or near those sugar canes.

So think carefully the next time you order that favourite sugar cane juice!

Please pass this info on to everyone you know. Got this info from Govt. Health Dept.

Let's take action to make this world a better & safer place for ALL of us & the generations to com

Woman!!

This is Vinita Deshmukh's editorial published in the March 6 issue of Intelligent Pune weekly tabloid. It's about the futility of celebrating International Women's Day against the backdrop of female foeticide which is prevalant even in educationally and culturally rich cities like Pune.

Do you want to kill me, Mamma?

When God sculpted you, he fell short of mud
So, you were born a baby girl!
They sulked, they baulked at such bad luck
No one rejoiced when you came into this world

They were in a hurry to give you a brother
Not because you needed company, but to mend their bruised ego
But when you got a sister instead
No one rejoiced when she came into the world.

Then they decided to fight God, nature, injustice, law
To ensure it is a brother, the next time round
When invasive tests proved you would get a sister again
They said to kill her even before she was born.

I am sorry but after that, there were two more murders
For again your would-be-sisters were hacked in my womb
Once more they avariciously said – this time luck would favour
And lo behold, it was a male foetus – allowed to flourish in my womb.

Now, they say ours is a happy and complete family
As a heir has finally been born to savour the legacy.
My girls, you would now be showered with more affection
As you have a brother to boast of in the family.

I don’t want to kill you child, but in birth your torture has begun
They only say education and prosperity has brought woman power
But the undercurrents of discrimination are overpowering
Save for oasis of appreciation, your achievements are a cropper.

Your fraternity has invaded male bastions and emerged triumphant
But that’s just a miniscule number, which too is fraught with contempt
If you are not a superwoman, and do not soothe the male ego
You are accused of high-handedness, arrogance, encroachment.

For the many of you, who have been tireless homemakers
Relentlessly working towards making a family and a warm home
Your acknowledgement reflects in taunts, sarcasm and belittling.
Sorry, no one rejoices, cherishes your contribution to this world.

Kalpana Sharma may have conquered space
Rani Jhansi may have been the epitome of valour
Such instances are thrown on your face like boiling water
To highlight your ineptitude of being similarly capable

If achieve you must, then YOU must muster courage
IF achieve you must, then YOU must sacrifice
If achieve you must, then YOU must be humble
IF achieve you must, then it CANNOT be at the expense of family.

This is not to take away credit from remarkable men
Who have let their wives/daughters blossom with magnanimity
Girl, it is just to tell you
That Woman’s Day celebration is a mere formality.

Until each one of us rejoices at your birth
Until each one of us reject and object to sex determination tests
Until such time my girl
Our existence is only `wanted’ to producing male heirs.

Until then my girl, we are only fooling ourselves
About equality between men and women
For, that does not come in the clothes you wear
…but in the embodiment of a fair spirit.

Very touching and so true. We urban women who have to bear lesser brunt of the burn should do something for empowering the lesser fortunate.

The Wait!! by Rashida Khilawala

Love-centric dilemma has been a recent topic of interest and inspiration for me. It lead me in to writing a poem. Would like to share it. It's called "The Wait"

How long will the wait be,
the wait for love.
Should I wait till the drying of the sea,
or a message from the heavens above.

Is it my fault, that i love so much?
Is it a flaw, that I try hard to cover up as much?
What should I do? Is my question above all.
Should I move on? Or wait till the eternal call?

How long will the wait be,
the wait for love.
Should I wait till the drying of the sea,
or a message from the heavens above.

Is the promise of love just romance?
Some melodious music and with your love, slow dance?
Or is it the moments that we long to spend together?
The joys and sorrows, that we care to share with each other?

How long will the wait be,
the wait for love.
Should I wait till the drying of the sea,
or a message from the heavens above.

Getting inspired by Shakespeare,
should I,like Juliette, for my love, just die?
Or like an Indian Woman of today,
In to the mysteries of love, should I pry?
Dilemma this is for sure,
but what I seek is a cure.

How long will the wait be,
the wait for love.
Should I wait till the drying of the sea,
or a message from the heavens above.

Made one of my friends cry. cool na!!

What is wrong with the world!!!

Just read the Sunday Express. What is the deal with the new string of the hepatitis B virus? Is the world ready for a clean up already? Should we be awaiting Armageddon? I love the series Heroes, there is quite a frequent reference to and mention of viruses in there. But, that is fun to watch if and when you know that there won't be any viruses in your world. Isn't the world going through enough turmoil thanks to recession? To add to that we find "life threatening" health hassles as well. Considering the fact the increase in pressure and stress has considerably reduced immune systems, will the issue blow out of proportion? So many questions!!!

And one complaint. What is people's problem as well? Suddenly there is a restriction on what you blog. A guy got arrested for starting a "I hate Shiv Sena" group on orkut. But i don't see any substantial punishments happening to the members of MNS and Shri Ram Sena for all the unlawful acts done by them under the flag of "culture maintenance"

And a question to the media: You very easily asked your readers if bloggers should be held accountable for what they write. And people answered on the basis that "what you read affects what you think and how you act". So how about asking bloggers if what you write in newspapers is right or not? Simply because what you write is what we read. What we read is what we write and the process goes on.
When the media is questioned, the "Freedom of expression" clause is brought forth. So, being an Indian, I have the right too. Why should I be held accountable to somebody who knows nothing about the art of multiple perceptions, for what I write?

One request to all my readers. Feel free to comment and disagree with something that I write, if you don't agree with it. Brainstorming is the key to clarity. Don't we all need it? I refuse to be held accountable for somebody who misunderstands what I write just because, they aren't eloquent enough to perceive words the right way, and gullible enough to act according to others and forget that they have been blessed with a brain as well!!!
